Your Optimal Living Zone

Positive psychology is the scientific study of what makes life fulfilling. Rather than focus on what's wrong with people and how to fix it, positive psychology focuses on people's strengths and helps build around those. Optimal Living uses this knowledge to show you how to become your best possible self in your personal and professional lives.

THE 3 CIRCLES OF OPTIMAL LIVING

Positive psychology is based on three pillars, each contributing to greater performance, fulfillment and balance.

  • Pleasure & Positive Emotions

Research on optimal work teams demonstrates that when we experience 3 times more positive than negative emotions, we are mentally in a better position to see the big picture, think creatively, problem-solve, accept others and be resilient. Because they help grow intellectual, emotional, social and physical skills, positive emotions are not indicators but producers of success.
  • Challenge & Engagement

Most of us have experienced that increasing work hours leads to diminishing returns. In response to augmenting demand, this is not only a failing strategy, but also a hindrance to good energy-hygiene (healthy eating, training and sleeping habits) which further diminishes overall performance. Increasing capacity is a more adaptive response. The scientific literature shows that our greatest potential for growth is in our greatest area of strength - not in our zone of weakness. Said otherwise, when we are good at something, it means our learning curve for that particular topic is exponential. Using our strengths will help us not only perform better due to enhanced learning but also due to facilitated concentration: rather than struggle with self-doubt and disengagement, we can focus on the task. Strengths are energizers. Identifying one's strengths and how to use them is crucial.
  • Purpose & Meaning

Most people race through life without ever considering what brings them meaning and then one day, they wonder why. We call it at times mid-life crisis, other times burnout, but it's nothing mysterious and unavoidable. Nietzsche said "If we have our own why of life, we shall get along with almost any how." Investing time understanding what connects us to a sense of meaning and exploring proven methods to enhance this connection is what will keep us going when the going gets tough.

YOUR OPTIMAL LIVING ZONE

It is when you find your intersection of positive emotions, engagement and meaning that you can be your best possible self - achieve your highest performance, be most fulfilled and still find balance. It is our mission to help you find it.
